The Ascent Mentorships Program
Our program pairs Revelstoke-based women into a five month, season-long mentorship in the effort of reducing barriers to entry into backcountry skiing and snowboarding.
Experienced female ski tourers or split boarders will be paired up with an aspiring female athlete for the duration of the season. Both mentors and mentees must be able to commit to one day per month from December to April. The program is open to anyone who identifies as a female and resides in Revelstoke, British Columbia and the surrounding area. Spaces in the program are limited and applicants will be selected based off of various criteria combined with availability of a suitable mentor or mentee.
Mentors.
This is your opportunity to pass along the knowledge you’ve earned through years of backcountry experience. Being a mentor is extremely rewarding. Help break down some of the barriers to entry for women in the backcountry by creating a comfortable, supportive learning environment for your mentee. I’m sure you remember your early days well, being intimidated, lacking confidence and searching for peers that would show you the ropes. Most experienced backcountry users can pinpoint one person who was essential to their growth in the sport. Here’s your chance to pay it forward and be that role model. Mentees.
We get it. Getting into backcountry skiing and snowboarding as a female can be really intimidating. All too commonly observed barriers to entry include a lack of confidence in ability and decision making, fear of holding a group back and a preference for a supportive rather than a competitive atmosphere. This is where we step in. We’ll pair you with an experienced and suitable mentor who can reduce these barriers and support you in your goals of getting into the backcountry.
